Review: But I Said Forever

But I Said Forever - Jennifer Gilby Roberts

Brittany has the storybook life: At age eighteen, she married a doctor and now - five years later - she has a gorgeous house and a nine month old son. But while the storybook romances always end with a wedding and a "Happily Ever After" you never see the tale after - when Prince Charming because Prince Vanished and the Stepford life isn't satisfying anymore.

Brittany's world is turned upside-down when she first gets a job in a bakery (against her husband's advice) and finds out that her husband may have some secrets. Can she break free of the marriage vows when she discovers her husband's hobby... one she just can't ignore?

I really enjoyed But I Said Forever. Not only are the characters fun and likeable, but the story moves quickly and feels real. Marriage isn't always perfect, and sometimes you have to do what is best - not what you were necessarily raised or trained to do. When Brittany has to choose between a healthy family atmosphere for her and her son James or staying with her financially-secure marriage, you really feel the indecision and anxiety. Even the background characters are well developed and have personalities and stories of their own, instead of being there just to add a backdrop.

I enjoyed this story enough that I have already added a few of the author's other books to my TBR pile, and I can't wait to have time to get started on those!  I was lucky enough to get a review copy of this book through Netgalley, but it is worth paying for.
