Review: The Fairyland Murders

The Fairyland Murders - J.A. Kazimer

Enter a world of fairies, trolls, and humans, where nothing is quite what it seems and a prophecy could bring around Fairy War II. Blue, a human electrode masquerading as a human, struggles to eke out a living as a private investigator. In the middle of a fruitless search for a missing pea, he takes on a search for a missing half-fairy, Izzy. What he doesn't know, however, is... everything. Blue is a fun character with a big gun, but he isn't always the brightest - unless he's surrounded himself with electrical energy, that is. Surrounded by lies, politics, a ditzy princess, and Shadows, Blue is finding it difficult to protect Izzy - the next Tooth Fairy - while searching for "Jack the Tooth Ripper" - a murderer targeting Tooth Fairies. Will he be able to survive to the end of the book while creating limited property damage?

The Fairyland Murders is a fun take on a murder mystery. Fairies rule the land, Shadows threaten, and Blue seems to be the lone human stuck in the middle. I really didn't like Blue at first, since he starts out as your "big, cute, and dumb" stereotype, but he grows on you... Potentially like fungus. At the end of the book I found myself hoping that he would have a big action hero moment where he saves the day and wins the lady, though I will admit that the ending was not exactly what I expected! The author did a great job at throwing in twists and parallel plots that ending up tying all together in the end, creating a really good story.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
