Review: Bad Apples: Five Slices of Halloween Horror
Bad Apples is a fun collection of scary and disturbing stories, all based around Halloween.
The first story, THE RIGGLE TWINS, showcases the talents of two children... every Halloween, they visit the town the year brings them to in order to find at least two adults who selfishly keep their lights off and ignore the trick-or-treating children. The twins teach these adults the wonder of Halloween in a way they'll never forget...
PUMPKINHEAD TED is a fun story about revenge and how it doesn't always turn out the way you expect it to. Full of ghosts, murder, and lingering regrets, this story will make sure you never view a Jack o'Lantern in the same way again.
GHOST LIGHT ROAD tells the story of a group of adults who decide to find out if a local ghost story is true... They didn't expect to end up as characters in a ghost story themselves. Showcasing more of the "Trick" aspect of Trick or Treating, you probably won't want to take any drives down deserted country roads in the near future...
The fourth story, EASY PICKINGS, tells the tale of a middle school bully, and how someone's treats may not be to another's taste... Anyone who is or was every tempted to steal candy from another child on Halloween should read this story.
THE SCARE ROWS is the most disturbing and creepy of all of the tales. Dealing with death, sex, and nightmares come to life, this story might keep you out of a Corn Maze this year. Even though this was the strangest story, it was one of my favorites, both because of the way the story can continue every year, and also because of the way that everyone forgets the horror surrounding them. Not knowing what you're scared of, or why, can be the most frightening thing in life...
While I wouldn't consider any of these stories spooky enough to keep me awake at night, they are fun tales of what hides in the shadows on Samhain.
