Review: Mr. Katz is a Zombie
J.D. is not your normal twelve-year old boy. With two parents who are official ghost hunters, J.D.'s gift of seeing and speaking with ghosts can sometimes come in hand. When he is asked by a dead magician to remove a dangerous book from the house of his widowed wife, J.D. honors the ghost's wish... though he later wishes he hasn't. For dangerous books - especially those dealing with magic - have a tendency to get into the wrong hands, and those hands just happen to belong to J.D.'s friend Rodney. After Rodney somehow manages to turn their teacher into a zombie, they must do everything they can to save their teacher and keep him from turning the town's citizens into snacks!
This is a fun and cute book, and is perfect for the 8-12 year old range as well as older readers who want something quick and interesting to read. The storyline moves quickly and there is a resolved ending, which is great, along with the opportunity for future mischief. While some rats and cockroaches were harmed in the story, for a zombie book it is remarkably blood free, so it won't be too scary for the younger children.
I would highly recommend this book for the younger children who like zombies but perhaps are too young for the really scary books and movies. The book is short enough and fast-paced enough to keep a child entertained, and it also has some great humorous moments that can keep even an adult happy.
NOTE: I received a copy of this book from Netgalley for reviewing purposes.
