Review: Darkness Waits

Darkness Waits - Simone Beaudelaire, Edwin Stark

This is the perfect season for those spooky stories that make you glance through the window (after turning off your lights, of course!) to make sure that you're alone. That time of the year when you shiver under your blankets and startle at every creak in the stairs and the scraping of branches against the side of your house.

When Darkness Waits came out a few days ago, I immediately purchased it and added it to my "must read before Halloween" list. Comprised of short stories including everything from ghosts to ghouls, vampires, murder most foul, and shivering death, this is a great collection of things that go bump in the night! While Simone Beaudelaire is best known for her romances, she can twist a tale to make your skin crawl. Edwin Stark is also a wonderful author, with a taste of the macabre and a wicked sense of humor. Together, they have put together a collection of the creepy for your reading enjoyment... and perhaps a few sleepless nights!

The last story of the collection is slightly different.. instead of dealing directly with the dark and horror of the dead, it deals with the fear of moving on in life after dealing with death. It gives a slightly softer ending to the collection and was a nice piece to end on.

If your a fan of the darkness that lurks through the curtains and under your bed, I highly recommend this collection of shorts.
