Review: The Glass Magician
Following the adventures of The Paper Magician, Ceony continues her training with Magician Emery Thane. After walking through his heart and saving his life, however, Ceony finds herself walking a thin line between apprentice and a desire for more. Though she knows his heart perhaps more than she knows her own, the future is never certain… especially when an Excisioner – one who binds to flesh and blood – threatens their lives and livelihood.
I really loved The Glass Magician even more than I loved the first book. While the first book in the series takes place over a short period of time and almost throws the characters at you, the second book is able to take its time and lead you through an exciting adventure. I’m not saying that I didn’t enjoy the first book – because I did! – but the second one satisfies the need for conflict as well as character development. The budding relationship between Emery and Ceony feels realistic and it was great to read more about the surrounding world and how the different types of magic.
Another great thing about this book is that the world is open for more exploration. Both The Paper Magician and The Glass Magician manage to tell a complete story within each individual novel (no cliffhangers!) while still showing you more about the world and leaving a pathway for future books. The author has already planned a third book so I am excited to see what direction she takes for book three!
NOTE: I received an ARC of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
