Review: Food: A Love Story

Food: A Love Story - Jim Gaffigan

After reading through Food: A Love Story, I felt a little disappointed. There are times in the book where Jim Gaffigan really shines, but there are many times where his humor felt flat. Many sections of the book fell flat, with the humor feeling forced as if Jim felt that he needed to talk about every possible type of food out there. I understand that he doesn't like seafood... did he need to spend an entire section of the book on it? At first, I laughed while reading about "snot on a rock" but after a while I just wanted to skip ahead to a type of food he enjoyed... there are only so many ways you can make fun of seafood, or salad, or vegetables.

If this book was about the normal length of one of his stand-up shows, I think I would have appreciated it better. Like some jokes, things don't always work out, and there were sections of this book that could have been left out (or shortened) and the overall impact of the book would have been stronger.

Thanks to the Blogging for Books program for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
