Review: The Prince

The Prince: The Young Royals 1 - S.A. Gordon

S.A. Gordon brings a "Prince meets Commoner" story to modern America.

Meet Caitlin: A struggling young woman trying to work her way up the publishing business, Catilin lives in an apartment in New York City with her best friend. Unsure of her own beauty due to a man who emotionally abused her in college, Caitlin just wants to meet someone who doesn't bore her. Caitlin love reading and secretly eating bagels on her way to the fashion magazine where she works.

Meet David: A young who is known for picking up a different woman each week - mostly models, or "walking clothes hangers" as his sister likes to call them. David's is second in the line for the throne but currently lives in the United States to temporarily escape his responsibility. He knows that he'll need to go back to support his sister when she takes the throne, but right now he just wants to read a good book, walk on the beach, and maybe find an interesting women.

When Caitlin and David find each other on a lonely beach, sparks fly between them. In each other, they find someone who they can easily talk to about anything. Caitlin treats David like a real person instead of a celebrity, and David sees the beauty in Caitlin without trying to control her. But this fairytale romance may not be meant to be... David is called back to England due to his father's health, and Caitlin must decide if she can find a place for herself in the busy and public life of a royal.

I really enjoyed this book. It was predictable, which is why I gave it four stars instead of five, but you can tell that the author put a lot of thought and effort into Caitlin, David, and David's sisters and how they interact with each other and the world around them. I viewed this story as a mix of Princess Diana, Princess Grace, and the current royal family - it's a modern day romance where one of the main characters happens to be part of the royal family, but it has its ups & downs just like any "normal" relationship would. It was great to see the characters acting human - flaws and everything.

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
