Review: Under My Skin

Under My Skin - Shawntelle Madison

At age sixteen, Tate Sullivan wishes for nothing more than to get her business certificate and perhaps go out on a date with Paul. Only the mandatory Guild test stands in her way, but Tate is confident that she will fail since no Sullivan has ever passed the test to become a Water Bearer.

Disaster happens when both Tate and her cousin Zoe are taken away after the test and auctioned off to the highest bidder. Becoming a Water Bearer seems glamorous at first, and only after the auction do they discover the truth... That their new Masters didn't purchase them as servants, but instead plan to take over their bodies.

A unique dystopian novel, Under My Skin shows us a corrupt government that not only wishes to control the people, but also plans to do it personally by living forever. Part "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" and 100% fun to read, I really enjoyed this world that the author created. So often we read about a character escaping or trying to destroy a power-hungry government from within, but rarely is the struggle literally within the character herself.
