Review: Going Down in Flames
Bryn is your average everyday teenage girl. Soon to be sixteen, she dreams of spending time with her friends, catching the attention of that cute boy in school, and maybe someday finding a cure for freckles. What she doesn't expect is to be blackmailed into joining an exclusive school where almost everyone hates her. For Bryn discovers that she is not your average everyday teenage girl, but instead is a hybrid dragon, born from an illegal union of two dragons from different clans... The parents she always thought were human.
Thrust into a nightmare where death threats and muttered insults are received on a daily basis, Bryn must discover her own heritage and the gifts that make her special before it's too late. With the son of the most powerful dragon as her enemy, a misfit group of friends from all clans keeping her company, and a knight pledged to protect her, Bryn finds that every day brings yet another complication.
I really enjoyed this book and found the integration of Bryn into the Institute both amusing and interesting. The author has succeeded in writing fun characters with their own quirks, and not everyone is stereotypically "good" or "evil". The ending of the book is satisfying and left me with a smile on my face and a desire to read more.
