Review: Up to Date

Up to Date (Better Date than Never) (Volume 8) - Susan Hatler

Up to Date is the eighth book of the "Better Date than Never" series, and keeps the fun and romance rolling. Ginger, the office manager at Woodward Systems Corporation, makes her way through each work day, bored out of her mind. She'd prefer to be an interior designer or an artist, but let her mother convince her to get a business degree instead. When her design services are bid on in a silent auction, Ginger has the chance to jump-start her dream career... if only she can remember not to fall in love with her client.

Ginger is fun an awesome, a realistic portrayal of a modern woman who is forced into an occupation she doesn't really want due to family pressure and the need for a steady income. She's not perfect, but neither is she a downtrodden character from a fairy tale... the author has developed her personality and back-story enough that we really like and understand Ginger, which is great. Though Ginger is the main character, we are able to see into the current lives of some of the characters we've met in previous books, providing a continuing story line for those who have been reading along, however Up to Date can also be read as a standalone novel and be enjoyed just as much.

This is a novella-length story, but is long enough to actually get you interested and invested in the characters and their lives. This isn't just a romance, it's also the story of a women discovering who she really is, instead of letting others make her decisions for her. While all of the books in this series are good, some are better than others... and this one ranks up with the best so far.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
