Review: Dear Internet: It's Me, Avery
Avery is your everyday, ordinary woman, living in a modern world. Constantly plugged into her phone, she is often distracted by everything online that she fails to notice the world around her. When she finally does come up for air - temporarily taking her eyes off her phone screen - she discovers that her husband is having an affair.
As Avery's life spirals out of control, the story because more and more amusing and you want to laugh and shake your head at the same time. The struggles that Avery goes through at work (How to get rid of your evil new boss while simultaneously getting over the humiliation of fainting next to a severed penis) brings life into the dying newspaper industry where Avery is a reporter, while her relationship woes will have readers empathizing.
This is a cute and fun book that doesn't take itself too seriously, and will probably be enjoyed by anyone - but especially any woman - with a sense of humor. The characters perhaps aren't developed as fully as they could be, but you have the feeling that you're dropped into Avery's life watching her behind a mirror, snickering quickly behind your hand. This is a good mix or humor and romance in the modern age.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
