Review: Listed! The Paris Guide
This is a neat little book of about 60 hotels and hostels in Paris, grouped by arrondissement (district), all for under $200. Well, the book title/description says that they're under $200, but the prices listed in the actual book are in Euros, so after you convert them to USD a few of the places are slightly over $200. Perhaps they meant "under €200" instead of $200?
The author also has a lot that in order for the properties to be included, they had to offer a price under $200 during the months of June - August 2015. This may mean that prices fluctuate and when you plan your trip the rooms may be more expensive than the listed price, or the listed price may be for the most basic room, so you'll want to take that into consideration if you use this guide to select a hotel.
There are short descriptions offered for each hotel/hostel mentioned, giving the nearest points of interest and highlighting positives regarding architecture, if it's been remodeled lately, and if there are any special amenities. There are a few that also list negatives, such as lack of accessibility for the disabled, or lack of A/C.
The reason this book gets a 3 star instead of a 4 star rating from me is that it really needs photos for each location. There are a handful of room photos in the book, but the majority of the listed properties do not show a photo. It would also be helpful to have a photo of the outside of each property along with a hotel room picture. A map would also be helpful for people not familiar with the arrondissements.
If you're looking for a bare-bones guide to help narrow down places in Paris to stay in, this would be a great guide for me. Just keep in mind that you will most likely need to do some research on your own if you're like me and want to see the exact location of the hotel, nearest transit lines, and photos.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
