Review: Attractive Unattractive Americans

Attractive Unattractive Americans: How The World Sees America - René Zografos

Attractive Unattractive Americans is a collection of what people around the world think of the United States and its citizens. From people in rural areas in large cities, Americans have made an impact, both positive and negative.

It was interesting to read what people thought about the denizens of the United States, with viewpoints on everything from how they act on vacation, how they spend money, their music, careers, and even healthcare. While some people seem to admire the USA, others do not, and there was a mix of reasons (and sometimes lack of reasons) on each side. Some of the people interviewed had traveled in the US, some had met US Citizens while they vacationed in their countries, some only knew about the USA from television, music, and literature.

The downside of this book is that after a while there is repetition, as people express the same (or similar) reasons on why they like or do not like the US and US Citizens. Otherwise, the book seems to be a pretty fair representation, not overly slanted to the positive or the negative. If you're interested in what people truly think of Americans, this may be a good book to pick up.
