Review: Inside Out [Kindle Edition]

Inside Out - W.D. Page

Dystopia done well.

I've read a LOT of Dystopian novels lately, since that seems to be the new trend for authors, and this one wasn't the best or the worst... however, it had a lot of good parts to it, which is why I'm giving this a 4 star review. The book starts out with a girl who reaches her 16th birthday and is shoved from the equivalent of an orphanage to the outside, without any preparation or supplies. She conveniently meets up with someone else who also used to be in one of the orphanages, and their adventures begin. Other than the improbability of them first meeting and then sneaking back Inside, the rest of the plot is well written. You see characters who have real bonds with each other, the progression of someone with mental illness dealing with the lack of medication, and the small arguments that come up when people are kept in a small place. The character development and interactions are reasonable for the most part... I guess the best thing is that the characters DO develop, so that you aren't stuck with shallow, one-dimensional characters.

The books leaves itself open for a sequel, and the ending seemed a little rushed, but overall I was pleased with this novel and would read another by the author.
