Review: Storm Warning (The Mage Storms, Book 1) Mass Market Paperback
Karal, a young secretary to his master Ulrich, is on a seemingly normal visit to a nearby country. This isn't a normal visit, however, as both Karal and Ulrich are Karsite Priests from the land of Karse... A land that has been at war with Valdemar for generations.
With a new Son of the Sun on the throne of Karse, however, the two countries form an alliance to work together. Ancar may have been defeated, but the Imperial Army is halfway through Hardorn and no one knows where the Emperor may be looking next.
And so starts this novel, with Ulrich and Karal on their journey to Haven, to be Envoy and Secretary in this new venture. What seems like a relatively simple assignment, after the initial agreements are made, turns into anything but once strange mage storms start affecting the country. Where are they coming from, and how can they be stopped?
This novel continues the story of Valdemar and surrounding countries in the world of Velgarth. You'll see Companions and Firecats, Priests and Mages, and find that events that happened hundreds of years ago can still change the lives of those now. This is a well done book and gracefully deals with the conflicts of a Sunpriest reconciling himself to a life in Valdemar that contradicts everything that he was told as a child, while also furthering the story of Velgarth as a whole.
