Review: The Prediction [Kindle Edition]

The Prediction - Darren Sugrue

If you could know the date of your death, would you want to?

Daniel Geller once thought that he could calculate the date that a person would die, based on genetic and reflex tests, as well as other calculations. However, after his thesis is essentially laughed out of Trinity College, he leaves his old life and everything about it behind to work as a crane operator.

Twelve years later, his old professor reaches out to him and tells him that his thesis may have been correct. One person is dead already, of a car accident on the day that Daniel predicted, and another person's date of death is quickly approaching.

This novel follows Daniel, his professor and now-friend John, and the dilemma that all people must face: If you can predict your own date of death, does that knowledge play any role in actually preventing it, or if your fate set in stone? And if you can predict the date that someone else will die, should you even tell them so that they can prepare, or should you let nature take its course?

I'll admit that I originally read the synopsis of this book incorrectly, and I thought this was a dystopian-style novel where everyone knew the date of their death and your lives were based on this. I'm happy to find that I was incorrect, because this book really made me think about my life and if I have lived it to the fullest potential. If I died tomorrow, would I leave an impact on the people around me, or is there still something that I need to do? And if I could know the date that I would die, or my loved ones, would I want to know?

If you want to read a book a little different than the rest of the books out there right now, I highly suggest The Prediction, by Darren Sugrue. A mixture of mystery and science, with a twist at the end that I was not expecting, this book is worthy of 5 stars.
