SPOILER ALERT!

Review: Pegasus in Space (The Talents Saga)

Pegasus in Space - Anne McCaffrey

The third book in the Talent Saga, Pegasus in Space, continues where Pegasus in Flight left off. Peter Reidinger, who dreamed to be in space, is now training to expand his telekinetic powers with the goal to eventually work on the Space Station. Unlike the previous book which combined the stories of Tirla, Peter, and other members of the Parapsychic center, this novel primarily focuses on Peter. In fact, when other characters are involved or mentioned, it is usually in reference to Peter, even when it's not obvious.

One new and very interesting character is brought into this storyline: Amariyah Bantam, a psychic orphaned by flood in Bangladesh. Amariyah is raised by Dorotea, with Peter as her "adopted brother." Amariyah plays a very important part in this novel, and one that will make you cry in happiness if you are fans of the characters in the Talent Saga.

This novel is one of my favorites, as it bridges the gap between the present and the future Talents.  For anyone who has read The Rowan or any of the books after that:

You already know that a descendent of Peter Reidinger is current head of FT&T in the future (Peter Reidinger IV), so it's great to see how the original Peter Reidinger was instrumental in creating the organization that is the center of one of my favorite book series.

(show spoiler)

Though I admit that some of the obstacles that Peter runs into are too easily defeated (bad guys should be more difficult to defeat!) I still love this book and feel that some of the conflict was written into the book just because it would be too perfect WITHOUT the conflict. There also needed to be reasons for some of the things that happened: from small details such as Amariyah giving Peter massages, to larger details such as Peter learning more about his telepathic and telekinetic range.
