Review: 21st Century Dodos: A Collection of Endangered Objects (and Other Stuff) [Kindle Edition]
The book is a memory, written by a person who wants us all to remember when we last dialed a rotary phone or had to listen to a modem. When the Marathon candy bar was renamed to Snickers, and when we last received a telegram... if any of us are old enough to have received one. Full of extinct or near-extinct items that were once part of our every day lives, this is a memory worth sharing with others.
While many of the items and activities mentioned in here are UK-Specific, there are plenty of items that crossed borders so that even people unfamiliar with the UK will understand the references. And even with the items that were extinct before my time (and I'm 35, which seems to be part of the demographic the author is writing for) the author describes them well enough so that you can picture your parents using them.
If you're looking for a fun look at the past, I will recommend this book... if you're US Born and not familiar with the UK, keep an eye open... some things may be more familiar than they first seem.
NOTE: I received this book from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
If you enjoyed my review, I would appreciate if you could mark it as being helpful on Amazon as well, as this is useful to both the reviewer and the author. I have included the link to the Amazon US review in the Source section at the bottom of this review.
