Review: Imager's Challenge: The Second Book of the Imager Portfolio [Kindle Edition]
Follow the story of Rhennthyl D'Imagisle, Master Imager. Imager's Challenge starts up immediately where Imager, the first novel in the Imager Portfolio, left off. The Collegium of Imagers has determined the Rhenn is not exact the "covert" type, since his actions tend to bring attention to him faster than he can hide them. This is a skill the Rhenn will need to learn, as his past actions has come back to haunt him in the presence of High Holder Ryel, the father of Johanyr.
In-between watching Ryel try to destroy his family while the Collegium does nothing, Rhenn is also assigned to patrol the Third District as a Civil Patrol Liaison while also attempting to paint two portraits and conduct a romance with Seliora. Occasionally he even sleeps.
This novel moves at a much faster pace than the first one, which contained a lot of background material on Rhenn and the world he lives in. Now that the main characters have been introduced, this story can concentrate on plot. Rhenn is able to work with his connections and skills to protect himself, his family, and the people of the taudis that he patrols.
Rhenn's story is told over the first three books of the Imager's Portfolio, so there is one more story in this tale. This one is probably my favorite of the three, however, as Rhenn has to overcome High Holders, corrupt Patrol Officers, brutal Navy Conscription Teams, and Priests who are willing to sacrifice their own believers in the pursuit of chaos.
