Review: M.O.D. [Kindle Edition]

M.O.D. - J.C. Allen, Shirley Hicks

Let's say that you were a hacker with 20+ years experience in manipulating phone lines, internet, etc. Now, let's add in the fact that you have watched the government grow more and more corrupt as you travel through life, to the extend that your wife is killed while working for the CIA and nothing is done by the government. Given the amount of (illegally procured from large corrupt businesses and politicians) money that you have accumulated, you decide to create a sanctuary for people with similar ideas.

You don't want to kill people, but you're willing to defend yourself and to do what it takes to fix the government. And you make sure that the corrupt government knows this.

Welcome to the world of M.O.D., where tens of thousands of military, scientists, and doctors have defected from the US Government to live in the sanctuary. Where people live with advances in technology and medicine that we can only dream of. And where an FBI agent realizes that he is on the wrong side of the battle.

I'm not going to tell you that this book is perfect. When I first started reading it, I was skeptical of everything that the M.O.D. was supposed to be able to do, and how the people responded. But I gave it a chance. And I'm glad that I did, because I found the characters and the storyline to be fun and enjoyable. Yes, some of the technology they have is way far out, but if an enclave of some of the most intelligent people in the country had unlimited money and could experiment without needing to deal with government restrictions and red-tape, I could see them coming up with a number of the advances, if not all. Besides, it's fiction. There are also some political messages in here regarding anti-corruption/anti-government, but you know... there is some truth on both "sides" and neither side in this conflict is 100% blameless. In some ways, the story is more real because both sides have their imperfections... you have to decide who the "bad guy" is, and your opinion may or may not change as you continue reading.

Put aside your disbelief for a moment, pick up this book, and give it a chance. It may not be for everyone, but if you go in to it knowing that some things are a little far-fetched but are needed for the story progression, you might find that you enjoy it.

NOTE: I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
