Review: Doctor Who: The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Time Traveller (Time Trips)

Doctor Who: The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Time Traveller (Time Trips) - Joanne Harris

"In stories, we live forever."

Time Trips are short stories that give a window into The Doctor's life. This Time Trip, The Loneliness of the Long-Distance Time Traveller, finds The Third Doctor alone and on his way back to Earth. Wanting to find Sarah Jane before he regenerates, The Doctor instead finds himself trapped in a storybook Village where it's always April 8th and everyone must be happy... or else.

Joanne Harris does a really good job at giving us a glimpse into the personality and emotions of The Third Doctor on his final journey. While the story is short, it fits the Doctor Who universe and could be canon. Short stories are difficult to write, since you have to provide a beginning, middle, and ending of the story without it seeming rushed or incomplete... this story succeeds and is a heartwarming tale of how dreams and wishes can change our lives.

I read this book courtesy of Netgalley, and I'm happy that I was able to share in this bit of The Doctor's history.
